Aishwarya: The Padmashri is such an honour

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan said she was ’'absolutely honoured’’ at being conferred the Padmashri and that she was grateful for it.
’'I am very thankful for the privilege. I am humbled by it. I thank the high officers of our country because this has been accorded to me by them and our fellow people,’’ the actress told reporters at the inauguration of the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in suburban Mumbai.

’'I hope to be able to live up to the promise of it. I am very grateful and will continue doing my best,’’ the actress added.


Megastar Amitabh Bachchan said his entire family was happy for the Padmashri recognition to daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.

’'Aishwarya’s Padma decoration is the fifth in the family. My father received Padmabhushan, myself with (two) Padmashri and Padmabhushan and Jaya was recipient of Padmashri. Five Padma awardees in one family. God is generous and kind,’’ Bachchan wrote in his blog.

’'Our family is very happy and we are thankful to the government to give this honour to Aishwarya,’’ he told reporters in Mumbai.

Along with the former Miss World, actors Akshay Kumar, Helen, noted singer Hridaynath Mangeshkar, ghazal singer Penaz Masani, playback singer Udit Narayan have also been honoured with India’s fourth highest civilian honour for their contribution in the field of art.
