Jhansi As Hot 'Kokapeta Kanakam'
Known as the famous face in the small screen industry, the naturally beautiful Jhansi has come a long way to prove her mettle as an actress and later on she progressed to do some roles on the silver screen too. However, her strongest foothold has been the small screen and she has created a brand of her own with 'Talk of the Town' program that ran for years together.

There have been rumors that young music director Devi Sri Prasad and sexy actress Charmee are an item. Although both of them denied the rumors about their love affair, speculations continue. Vijayashanti’s property woes
Four people, including two women, have been jailed for allegedly selling a property worth over Rs.700 million and partly owned by actress-turned-politician Vijayashanti. They used forged papers to sell the property in the northwest suburbs of this city, the police said.
The four were arrested Friday following a complaint from one of the owners of the property.
All of them were sent to Puzhal prison after a court remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days, a police official said.
Vijayashanti heads Talli Telangana, a political party in Andhra Pradesh, and is said to own sizeable property here.

Shruti Hassan - Doing it her way
Hot as hell, with a voice and attitude to match, this girl is a born rockstar. After wowing audiences with her sultry voice, Shruti Haasan is all set to make her acting debut opposite current heartthrob Imran Khan in Soham Shah’s Luck.
Ask her whether the journey this far has been easy because of her lineage and pat comes the answer, “Well it really depends on how you look at it. If having it easy means there are more doors open to you, then one must not forget that you still have to navigate your life yourself. I’m not gonna lie, having acting greats like Kamal Haasan and Sarika as parents has in a sense opened doors. I am proud of my lineage but it’s not something I rely on,” she says.
Shruti says music is her passion and that is what she lives for. Lead vocalist of Extramentals, Shruti and her boys rocked the crowd at the Hard Rock Café recently, and were met with wolf whistles and a helluva lot of head banging. Hailing from the prestigious Musicians Institute in Hollywood, she says that the school is a haven for budding musicians and will remain one of her most cherished experiences till date. It was when she was living in Los Angeles that the acting bug bit Shruti. It was then that she decided to come back and make her mark as an actress as well.
What kind of acting advice do her parents give her? “I don’t think you can really tell someone how to act. That being said, my parents do tell me what may or may not work. I’m my own master though,” says she.
Initially slotted to make her debut opposite Madhavan in Endredrum Punnagai, the actress opted out due to date hassles and chose Soham Shah’s Luck as her launch vehicle. Even though her film with Maddy didn’t work out, Shruti says she is glad about the experience and is looking forward to working with him in the near future.
The multi-faceted girl that she is, Shruti has also dabbled with playback singing. At the tender age of six, she sang in her father’s Thevar Magan, under the composition of music maestro Illayaraja. Numbers in Chachi 420 and Hey Ram followed and most recently she exercised her vocal chords for Gautham Menon’s Vaaranam Ayiram. So, why not a career in playback singing? “Well, to be honest, I haven’t considered a full time career in playback but I’m not opposed to it. Being a musician takes up a fair amount of time. I must add though, that I have enjoyed singing for films thoroughly and look forward to continuing with it,” she says.
Shruti also says that being a musician has helped her with voice-modulation and dubbing. Having grown up in Chennai, she says that though her Tamil is not suttha tamizh, she has a good command of the language. She adds, “I keep working on my reading and writing as that’s something you forget to do after school. I definitely want to dub for my films, as a large part of your performance is shaped by your voice. Besides, the fact that I’m a singer helps. I genuinely believe that one’s voice is a powerful tool.”
Juggling between the band, shooting for films and a bit of playback singing, we ask Shruti how she unwinds. “Well, I watch movies, I listen to new music and I spend time with my friends and family. They really keep me sane and wired for anything that’s yet to cross my path,” she says.
With an extremely pretty, but firm head on her shoulders, oodles of charisma and a kick-ass voice, this Haasan is all set to rock Kollywood. Is Kollywood ready to rock with her?

A source close to Salman reveals, “Both of them have bonded really well on the sets of Vipul Shah’s London Dreams. Though Asin is all set for her debut with Aamir Khan in the Ghajini remake this year end, Salman has started recommending her to other filmmakers in tinsel town.”
In the past, Salman is known to have recommended many actresses including Katrina Kaif, Bruna Abdallah and Mahek Chhal among others.
“While Asin holds much credibility in the South, Salman is very impressed with her acting prowess. Now, Asin is in talks with a few big banners,” adds the source.
Asin is also planning to relocate from the South and make Mumbai her base. “Salman is going all out to help her find a pad in Bandra where he also stays. He is keen on getting a properly furnished apartment in Bandra. In all possibility Asin will have her flat by the year’s end,” adds the source.

Govt to put it straight: It’s criminal to be gay
(IBNLIVE): In what is being seen as a big blow to the gay rights movement in India, the Union Government has said it will not scrap the controversial Article 377 of the Indian Penal Code that makes homosexuality a punishable offence in India.
The Centre will on Friday oppose a petition in the Delhi High Court filed by the NAZ foundation, an NGO supporting gay rights.
The petition challenges the century old, colonial law. The debate over Article 377 has exposed differences within the government.
Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss had recently come out it in support of gay rights while the Home ministry was opposing it.
Interestingly, Ministries of Home Affairs and Health will be battling it out against each other in the Court with divergent stands on the issue of homosexuality.
While the Home Ministry has sought retention of penal provision against homosexual acts, the Health Ministry – just like the Law Ministry has suggested that section 377 of the IPC which criminalises homosexuality and provides punishment upto life imprisonment be scrapped.
The Union Cabinet before which the matter came up, has not taken a decisive stand on the issue resulting in the situation where two law officers of the Centre will put forward divergent views.
The government had earlier said that it would file a fresh affidavit on the issue after reconciling differences.
Additional Solicitor General P P Malhotra, who will argue the case on behalf of the government, tried to play down the controversy saying that issue of law point would be raised in the court tomorrow.
"No fresh affidavit has been filed and we would argue on point of law involved in the case and there is no difference between the ministries," he told PTI.
"Enforcement of Section 377 can adversely contribute to pushing the persons suffering from HIV underground which would make such risky sexual practices go unnoticed," said an affidavit filed by the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO), which comes under the Ministry of Health.
Pointing to the vulnerability of homosexuals to HIV infection, the NACO had said that there were around 25 lakh male homosexuals and around eight per cent of them were infected with HIV while in normal people the infection was only one per cent.
"Men Having Sex with Men (MSM) are mostly reluctant to reveal same sex behaviour due to fear of law enforcing agencies, pushing the infection underground and making it difficult to access them," the affidavit file by NACO had said, adding that around 69 per cent MSM know about preventing infection but only 36 per cent use condoms.
The ministries’ response came on a petition filed by gay rights activists of the NGO, Naz Foundation, which sought the court’s direction to abolish Section 377 of Indian Penal Code.
"Section 377 demeans a gay man. It silences a gay man into accepting the discrimination against him. He will not come out to declare his orientation," the NGO contended. "It can be criticised on the basis of moral grounds but it is illegal to make homosexual acts between consenting adults an offence," the petition said.

His wife Sunitha was much inclined to produce a film with her husband’s life story as the script. But due to some unknown reason she could not succeed in doing so and so she handed over the idea and thoughts to Ram Gopal Varma. Now Ram Gopal Varma is ready with the subject and has asked Ravi Teja to direct this film.

But Babu and Chiru may become political rival once Chiranjeevi launches his political party. But they did not show any sign of awkwardness or discomfort at the function. They both seemed to share a good rapport.

Anushka Bikini @ 1 Crore
It is raining crores in film industry for heroines. After Ileana, Anushka becomes the second heroine in Telugu to reach the one crore mark. In Bollywood, it is no big thing to get one crore. Asin is offered Rs 1.50 crore for a role in London Dreams. Katrina Kaif is offered Rs 1.50 crore for an item song.
Anushka is playing the role of Nayantara in Tamil super hit Billa remake opposite Prabhas. Anushka will appear in black bikini in the film.
Producers agreed to pay the amount without second thoughts. The producers are planning to make the movie a super hit in Telugu too.

What’s the purpose of Vijay coming to Kolkota? forms the rest of the movie.
Performances: Gopichand Suited to the role well, he is very good in the Action episodes. Anushka provides the glamour quotient to the flick, She is hot. Poonam kaur has a small role but she fits into the slot. Ali is good in the ‘Gymson’ comedy track. Dharmavarapu, Sudha, Tanikella Bharani, Krishna Bhagawan and Raghu babu are good in their roles. Manoj has done very good job as Villain. Ajay is repetitive as a bad guy. Dialogues by Ratnam are o.k. The cinematographer Vetri has done good job. The Fights are good. Music by Mani Sharma is Good. The production values are high. The Screenplay is not up to the mark; the direction is good in parts.
Analysis: Here comes a movie from another Cinematographer turned Director-- Siva. He concentrated more on visuals and presentation and somewhere lost grip in the narration in Second half. This is an o.k. job for a debutant Director.
Gopichand delivered yet another macho performance. Gopichand with the usual stuff like violence, action and some romance entrenched in it. His razor sharp eyes and his flexible acting skills to bash up the goons are awesome. His acting and action skills need no mentioning. His comedy timing improved a lot and it’s fun to watch the comedy episodes involving him.
Anushka is becoming more hot and sexy with every releasing movie. She looks more hot and revealing than her earlier movie Baladoor. Anushka does the skin show without much hesitation. Gopichand and Anushka form a very good onscreen pair; the body chemistry is working well for them.
Manoj excels as the villain. His role is well etched and convincing. Ajay has done many such roles earlier. The remaining Supporting casts have performed reasonably well. The Music by Mani Sharma is good, Some songs Sound new in the orchestrisation area, the lyrics are good. The first song is catchy with Some English lyrics like “If you Gonna Survive OO Lammi”. The typical Pre Climax mass Song(Mani’s Mark ) entertains the Masses well. The Background Score is good. The Dialogues by Ratnam are powerful but some dialogues are edited (Muted) for their double meaning content. The Cinematography was good. The editing is o.k. Many fight masters choreographed the fights. Each fight has it’s own style. Violence content is bit more (could have taken care of).
The Screenplay is Slow with few hiccups in the second half. There is no proper reason for why the villain is after the hero; the flash back episode is also not so interestingly dealt. The villain traveling in the ambulance for more than 10 hours is innovative and entertaining but kills the seriousness at the same time. The Audience expect a serious and powerful Flash Back –this movie fails to deliver that.
The Film is mainly targeted at B, C, centers and Masses.

Minus: Screenplay hiccups, lacks clarity in Narration
Verdict: Average ---In spite of the familiar storyline and treatment, it is watch able

Chiru is no hero for former Top heroines
Many heroines who ran around trees and sang lovey-dovey duets with Chiranjeevi in reel life are spurning him in the political arena. On screen, their eyelashes fluttered with adoration on seeing the hero, but now many of them talk as if they can’t bear the sight of him. Roja, the president of Telugu Mahila, the women’s wing of the Telugu Desam, was Chiranjeevi’s heroine in many films. Some of the films, including Muta Mestri, were blockbusters.
But now Roja has no good words for her former hero. In fact, she lashes out at him every day. "His role is nil when it comes to helping the needy in times of natural disasters in the state," says Roja. Vijayashanti, who has acted in the most number of films with Chiranjeevi and was considered to be the heroine who most suited him, is also a bitter critic of the star.
Both of them are in the opposite poles of the political spectrum and fans are sad to see them snipe at each other. But there are chances of the lucky pair getting together again. Vijayashanti is planning to merge her political outfit with the Telangana Rastra Samiti. And if the TRS joins hands with the Praja Rajyam, then fans will see Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanti together in a campaign van.
Popular heroine Nagma, who acted with Chiranjeevi in many films, is now in the Congress. Chances are that she will be campaigning against Chiranjeevi. Similarly, Jayasudha, who donned some good roles with Chiranjeevi is all set to join the Congress to spearhead the attack against her screen hero. Salman Khan loses Katrina to Shah Rukh
It is turning out to be a bad year for bad boy with golden heart – Salman Khan. After the infamous spat with Shah Rukh in girlfriend Katrina’s birthday party, Bollywood had been divided into two camps. Salman lost many of his dear ones to bitter rival Shah Rukh.After she agreed to do ‘Temptation Reloaded’ with SRK, Katrina, not minding the spat between the Khans, has signed a new film with SRK. And if sources are to be believed, she nodded to the YRF venture during Sallu Miya’s absence. Katrina’s final nod to Yash Chopra came on Sept 16 - the day Salman left for his 40 day shoot in Paris and London for Vipul Shah’s ‘London Dreams’. Poor chap!
The Bachchans – Big and Small, are also in the YRF star cast to spice up things further. The film is to be directed by the legendary director himself. Perhaps, this further induced Sallu’s lady love to assert her independence and she was approached by none other than Yash Raj Chopra!
Added to this, there is SRK’s ‘Temptations Reloaded’ tour round the corner. The event will take place in mid-October in Dubai, where Katrina is all set to perform with Shah Rukh, while Salman is away in London.
Katrina is already doing a Yash Raj produced film, opposite Salman’s another enemy, John Abraham. It seems that Salman’s lady love is spreading her wings and is ready to fly. Let’s see whether Sallu shows his violent bad boy side to Katrina or his golden heart by congratulating his sweetheart on her success. Either ways, the loss is his. Accept our sympathies, Sallu!

It is well aware that Prabhas and Anushka are playing the lead in a film to be directed by Meher Ramesh. The film is said to be the remake of a successful Tamil film ‘Billa’. There is another heroine character in the film and Nayanatara was selected for that role earlier. However, she was unable to adjust dates for the producer and hence the producer opted for Hansika Motwani of ‘Desamuduru and Kantri’-fame in her place.
Namita played the role in the original and the same is now played by Hansika. Rebel Star Krishnamraju is producing the movie on the banner of Gopikrishna Movies. Besides producing the movie, the Rebel Star is playing a main role in the movie, it is reliably learnt. It is Balakrishna time in the Telugu Desam. The actor has now started calling the shots in the party which was founded by his father NTR. Some leaders who are close to the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, are not happy with the actor’s direct involvement in the party activities. But the actor seems to be unstoppable with the support of entire NTR family. After his appearance at the Basava Tarakam Cancer Hospital, the star has made it clear to the party cadre that he meant business.
Later, Balakrishna started talking to leaders enquiring about the party’s position in their areas. Former ministers started thronging his residence with reports on their districts. The Telugu Yuvata, the youth wing of the party, almost changed its style of functioning to follow the actor’s directions. The Yuvata president, Mr Beeda Ravichand, has been meeting the actor every day to brief him on the future programmes and agitations it wanted to take up.
Former ministers, Mr B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, Mr Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and Mr B.V. Mohan Reddy met the star and held discussion on the prospects of the party. “We are baffled to see that the actor has started talking to the leader directly, bypassing the party hierarchy. And some of the leaders — with their own interests in mind — are actually encouraging this unheard of system,” said a senior leader who is close to Mr Naidu.

Comedian Ali who has become a well known face in the industry, according to film nagar sources, Ali is stated to be worth Rs.500 crore worth. Delhi court saves Bollywood film 'Hari Puttar' from 'Harry Potter spell'
A Delhi court on Monday dismissed Warner Bros's petition against 'Mirchi Movies', the makers of Bollywood film 'Hari Puttar' over the claimed similarities in the title and content of the international film 'Harry Potter'.
Hollywood's Warner Bros., which owns the rights to the Harry Potter movies, had sued the producers of the film claiming similarities to the international film and literary phenomenon.
'Hari Puttar-a comedy of terrors', which was slated to open in the cinemas on September 12, is story of a young boy fighting two criminals who try to steal a secret formula devised by the boy's scientist father.
The court said that Warner Bros have brought their case after three years of the registration of the name and that people can distinguish between Hari Puttar and Harry Potter.
"Justice Reva Khanna said that Warner Brothers cannot get the stay because they delayed it from 2005. Also, the lower courts have maintained that there are no similarities between the stories of the two movies. And because of the delay, they could not get the stay," said Pratibha Singh, the lawyer of 'Mirchi Movies'.
Mirchi Movies argued that 'Puttar' meant 'son' in Punjabi language and the movie had nothing to do with Harry Potter movies.
Manish Puri, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mirchi Movies limited said that the release of the film that got delayed due to the legal row is now slated for this Friday.
"We are happy. We have worked hard for the movie and now with Pratibha Singh on this case the movie would now release on Friday and the premiere would take place on Thursday. We are happy, 'Hari Puttar' is completely Indian, it's a nice feeling," said Puri.
The producers of "Hari Puttar" said they had registered the title more than two years ago and the film bore no resemblance to the "Harry Potter" franchise.
In October last year, an Indian court allowed a community group in West Bengal to create a replica of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, rejecting a petition from author J.K. Rowling for copyright breach.
The British creator of the boy wizard Harry Potter and Warner Bros., which controls the rights to the series in India, had sought two million rupees in compensation from the group, which had erected the structure for a Hindu festival. (ANI)

Shriya Saran is in trouble over her Hollywood assignments. The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) plans to take action against the actress for ignoring actor Dhanush starrer project for her foreign assignments.
Shriya took an advance from producer Murugesan to star opposite Dhanush, son-in-law of Rajnikant. She was supposed to start working on the film after finishing a shooting schedule for Gemini Films with the same actor, sources from the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) said.
"The action is being taken after Murugesan’s complaint, endorsed by his director Vetrimaran. Its terms have been communicated to Shriya," the source added.
Shriya has denied the charges.
According to sources close to Shriya, she deposited the undisclosed fee for the untitled Murugesan film with the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) pointing out she is busy with Hollywood commitments - "The Other End Of The Line" produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and the post-production schedule of "What’s Cooking Stella?" being directed by Canada-based director Deepa Mehta and her brother Dilip.
Shriya is reportedly stumped over the whisper campaign against her in the south Indian film industry.
Shriya hit the bull’s eye when she was cast opposite Tamil superstar Rajnikant in "Sivaji, The Boss" (2006). The film directed by Shankar broke all box office records.
Shriya’s current Indian assignments include "Kandaswamy", K.S. Ravi Kumar’s "Jaggubhai" and "Marmayogi" opposite Vikram and it also stars actor-turned-politician Sarath Kumar and thespian Kamal Haasan.
"All her major Tamil projects will get into trouble if TFPC takes action against her," an industry source added.
Shriya has 37 films under her belt. Of those 31 are in south Indian languages.
She has also tried her luck in Hindi films with "Thoda Thum Badlo Thoda Hum", "Aawarapan," "Mission Istaanbul" and "Ek, The Power of One". But all the films flopped.

Shriya hit the bull’s eye when she was cast opposite Tamil superstar Rajnikant in "Sivaji, The Boss" (2006). The film directed by Shankar broke all box office records.
Shriya’s current Indian assignments include "Kandaswamy", K.S. Ravi Kumar’s "Jaggubhai" and "Marmayogi" opposite Vikram and it also stars actor-turned-politician Sarath Kumar and thespian Kamal Haasan.
"All her major Tamil projects will get into trouble if TFPC takes action against her," an industry source added.
Shriya has 37 films under her belt. Of those 31 are in south Indian languages.
She has also tried her luck in Hindi films with "Thoda Thum Badlo Thoda Hum", "Aawarapan," "Mission Istaanbul" and "Ek, The Power of One". But all the films flopped.

The weekend parties at The Park are usually packed with fun and energy. But what made Friday night’s event a special one was the presence of the sensuous Sherlyn Chopra.
Party-goers thronged the hotel to watch the model-turned actor perform who was here in the city to promote her new album ‘Dard-e-Sherlyn.
But the restless crowd had to wait for quite sometime before the dusky beauty made an appearance to a packed audience and set the dance floor on fire with her ‘jhatkas’ and ‘matkas’.
The firebrand gave a brief performance on the remix version of the “Dard-e-Sherlyn” title track by DJs Akbar Sami and Pramz with aplomb. But the highlight of her appearance remained her controversial trademark diamond-studded bikini top. For the sake of safety, a group of bouncers surrounded her during the performance. As the evening progressed, the dance floor shifted to the swimming pool as the diva, armed with security guards, wooed the audience with her sensuous dance moves in the pool. RGV kisses and clears issues with Mallika
These days, Ram Gopal Varma is in a mood to forgive and forget. Ramu and Mallika have finally kissed and made up. Recently, they exchanged a number of text messages after which all misunderstandings between them were sorted out.An insider from Ramu’s office even says that after the patch-up, Ramu has signed Mallika for Phoonk 2, which he is making after his latest film Phoonk did quite well at the box-office. Ramu and Mallika were at war as Ramu had used a picture of Mallika in the film, without her permission. A miffed Mallika had even sent a legal notice to Ramu.
When contacted, Ramu confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Mallika and I had a problem after Contract. She had sent me a legal notice. However, we have buried our differences now. We exchanged some text messages and everything is fine between us.” When asked if the patch-up will lead to Mallika being cast in one of Ramu’s forthcoming films, the filmmaker said, “Why not? I am eager to work with Mallika.”

‘Dancing with Mahesh Babu was different’
Malaika Arora, who has done several hit item songs in Bollywood movies, recently shot her first Telugu dance number in Hyderabad and was in for a culture shock.
The Chaiyaa Chaiyaa girl, who teamed up with Telugu filmdom’s reigning superstar Mahesh Babu in the song, describes the experience as ’hysterical’.
"All those words and movements and some of those steps - the whole bump-and-grind routine that I was used to was completely changed," said Malaika, whose Chaiyaa Chaiyaa with Shah Rukh Khan remained a chartbuster for months.
What Malaika found truly weird was the complete absence of interaction with her leading man during the dance.
"When I danced with Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Se and Kaal, we were dancing together. But the entire definition of screen-heroism in the south is different. With Mahesh there was absolutely no interaction even though we were dancing on the same set," said Malaika.
"He was playing the unattainable Adonis and I was the dancer. I found it hilarious. Mahesh said all of five words to me during the entire shooting. But, let me add, he’s a thorough gentleman," she added.
Malaika requested the team for a more interactive dance.
"But I was told this is the way it is in the south. So I just did my work. It was nevertheless fun and worth it because I did it for a friend."
Malaika signed on for the song because her old friend and actress Namrata Shirodhkar, who is now married to Mahesh, requested her to do so.
"I never thought I would dance in a regional film. She (Namrata) said they needed me to do a song and dance. I thought I wouldn’t be able to mouth those Telugu words. But Namrata convinced me. It was ages since I had met her. I told her the entire team including the choreographer was unknown to me, and I wouldn’t be comfortable. And to me being comfortable in what I do is very important. She told me to just relax and promised to be there for me. When I heard the track, I found it very cool," she said.
Malaika still can’t believe the experience.
"I had taken my friends along and at the end of it they were wondering if it was for real."
The actress had earlier grooved with her husband Arbaaz Khan to an item number in director Indrajith Lankesh’s Shaadi Ke After Effects.
"I did an item song with my husband Arbaaz for a Hindi film by Lankesh, which they’ll probably dub into Kannada. That was any day more interactive than my song with Namrata’s husband," Malaika said.
The 34-year-old will be seen in a full-length role as an actress opposite Arjun Rampal in Suniel Shetty’s EMI, but says she is still not open to doing full-length parts.
"I’ve neither the time nor the patience. Every other day I get an offer. But I politely decline. I really don’t have the space or time. I can’t divide my time between my son and work. I can’t break away for two months and do a film," Malaika insisted.

Kamal - Srividya romance is now a film!
Stories based on tinsel world has always found its audiences in Kerala. In recent years Udayananu Tharam (Vellithira in Tamil) and Katha Parayumbol (Kuselan in Tamil) were blockbusters.
Now a Malayalam film released last Friday (Sep 12) for Onam Thirakatha (Screenplay) is turning out to be controversial.
It is said to be based on one of the biggest Kollywood romances of the late 70’s between Kamal Hassan and top Tamil and Malayalam actress Srividya !
Srividya, one of the finest actresses in south, daughter of Carnatic singer M.L Vasanthakumari, had acted in over 150 films in Tamil and Malayalam and was known as the ’tragedy queen’ in her personal life. She died a lonely death in 2006 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Two years after her death, leading Malayalam writer-director Ranjit who knew her at close quarters has made the film Thirakkatha featuring Prithviraj, Anup Menon and Priyamani, loosely based on her life and romance.
The film’s promotional posters also feature Srividya’s photo along with Padmarajan and Bharathan, two of the greatest writer- director team of 70’s and early 80’s, the ’Golden Age’ of Malayalam cinema.
Director Ranjit in television interviews is quite candid that it is loosely based on Srividya’s torrid affair with Kamal. However he goes on to add that there has been similar romances between leading men and their heroines from time immemorial.
The buzz is that Ranjit had access to Srividya’s personal diaries she maintained. At one time Srividya was to publish her memoirs for a Malayalam weekly, but strangely it never saw the light of the day.
Meanwhile the film has taken a decent opening all over Kerala and the word of mouth is very good. The performance of Priyamani, is said to be brilliant. She plays Malavika an actress modeled on Srividya.
Newcomer Anup Menon is the superstar Ajaychandran, while Pritviraj plays a young director Akbar Ahmed a new age director who plans to write a script about the romance between Ajay and Malavika and her subsequent disappearance.
Thirakatha is one of the best films to have come out from Kerala in recent times. The climax, which will leave a lump in your throat is the highlight of the film, and Priyamani a spitting image of Srividya is excellent as she is able to bring out the various mood swings and frailties of a heartbroken and lonely actress.
NTR’s Guest Appearance in Neninthe!!
Young Tiger NTR with his dashing looks appears to be busy in giving guest appearances in film after film. Recently he performed a dance bit with Venky in ‘Chintakayala Ravi’. Now he is also going to appear in Ravi Teja’s ‘Neninthe’. The story is about the film world, hence Puri is said to have requested NTR to appear as himself in the film. Vikram reddy (the prime suspect in the NRI girl's murder case) also murdered - Video
It’s a deadly double blow for the Tummala family. Even as they grieve the death of 23-year-old Soumya Reddy - who was murdered in Chicago on Sunday - came another shocker when the authorities in Missouri found the body of Soumya’s cousin Tummala Vikram Kumar Reddy in a lake on Monday.
The body of 27-year-old Vikram surfaced from the lake at around 11.45 am on Monday. Vikram, son of Soumya’s mother’s elder sister, was working as a software engineer in Chicago. His death was expected to have taken place around the same time as Soumya’s, St Louis County police official Rick Eckhard said. The St Louis County police, who said Vikram was also shot, though would not discuss the specifics but stopped short of calling the shootings a murder-suicide.
Vikram, hailing from Anksapur village in Nizamabad district, completed his engineering from Hashim College and went to the US six years ago to do an MS. "After finishing his MS, he had been working with a software company," Srinivas Reddy, a close relative of the family, told ‘TOI.’ Vikram’s father Venkat Reddy is an employee of the telecom department, while his elder sister Pratibha is working as a doctor in Hyderabad. Soumya’s mother Hemalatha lives in Venkat Reddy’s house at Padmarao Nagar.
Since they came to know about Soumya’s death, the family members were trying to contact Vikram, but could not reach him. "Now, comes the shocking news of Vikram’s death," Srinivas Reddy said. However, the family said they haven’t received any information from the US authorities on Vikram’s death till Tuesday night.
Earlier, the body of Soumya, slumped in a car belonging to Vikram, was found near Sunfish Lake boat ramp close to Spanish Lake Park by early morning joggers. The car, a 1995 Ford Taurus, was registered in Vikram’s name. Eckhard said it’s not clear why Vikram and Soumya would have been at the park. It is learnt that Vikram and Soumya shared the house in Maryville.
The St Louis County police said investigation would continue to unravel the mystery behind the murders. No arrests have been made in connection with either death as the police believe that the deceased were the only people involved based on preliminary investigations. FBI sleuths are also investigating the case from all angles. Initially, it was said that an African-American pumped bullets into Soumya. The Spanish Lake Park is a 30-minute drive across the Illinois-Missouri state border and 20 miles from the Southern Illinois University campus at Edwardsville where Soumya was a second year student pursuing her MS in Electrical Engineering.
Soumya, who celebrated her 23rd birthday on September 7, had telephoned her mother Hemalatha on Saturday and had told her that she would come home in March next year after her exams. Some of their neighbours said the family was also planning for the marriage of Vikram and he was expected to come down in December. Vikram used to call up the family every Sunday but this Sunday he didn’t. Police were also examining whether the wounds of Soumya and Vikram were from the same gun.
Praveen Dodda, president of Indian Students Association, said Soumya was a reserved person but a brilliant student. "The Indian community here is deeply shocked that Soumya and Vikram are no more," he said.

Man vs Machine – The 'Yanthram' Saga
Sujatha' Rangarajan, a magnificent writer in the Tamil language showed his fascination for modernity with many of his works. The element of human life that is changing ever so rapidly thanks to technological advancements has been a subject of intense fascination for him.
The late writer had written a script with the core of having an antagonist in the form of a Robot. He had even thought of having Kamal Haasan play the role. But then the script has been lying around for a long time with no takers as the film would involve a whopping amount if it has to see the light of day with the right effect.
Along came a film director Shankar who had always made it a point to insist on Sujatha's talent in his films. After the huge success of 'Sivaji', Shankar was looked upon as a man who could churn out lavish films nationally. Sujatha Rangarajan's 'Robot' became a viable option when Sharukh Khan made public his desire to work with Shankar. The name 'Robot' was copyrighted by Shahrukh's production house Red Chilles. But then things fell apart as Shahrukh was not convinced totally with the project.
Rajinikanth-Shankar combo had worded wonders at the box office and people were thirsting to see the two come together for another project and so the superstar was roped in for 'Robot'. Then came Aishwarya Rai into the picture. Shooting has begun for this film that went through a name change to 'Yanthram'.
The ‘supposed’ story of ‘Endhiran’ has already surfaced and the following is probably what the film is all about.
The film is about a scientist, played by Rajini who lives about 200 years in the future. He is passionate about making robots that have the ability to rationalize things. Designed to help humanity the robots are themselves like humans with many emotions. One such robot (played by Rajini again) is tampered upon by people of evil intent. And so this robot lives a life of its own putting humanity at risk.
To boot to the mayhem this robot even falls in love with the scientist's girlfriend (played by Aishwarya Rai).
The film is expected to be released in the summer of 2010. The story does sound interesting, but then we'll have to wait and see if the balance between modernity and traditional human emotions exists.
Technical details are being worked out right now. Since the story was written by Sujatha a long time ago, the filmmakers have decided to add in the necessary updates. A team of about 250 people have been assigned the responsibility of researching these updates.
'We just would have needed one person in Sujatha to work on these updates. Since he is no more, we need 250 people to fill in for him', rues director Shankar.

Simbu’s car crashes into bike; 1 dead, 2 hurt
One person was crushed to death and 2 other people were injured, when Simbu’s lost Ford Mondeo car hit a two-wheeler at Salavakkam near Chengalpattu. Devaraj (39) died while Babu (26) and Anbalagan (26) sustained injuries.
Simbu’s driver Vasanthakumar hit the two-wheeler at 1.30 pm on Friday and escaped after abandoning the vehicle fearing the action.
Media reports stated that Simbu and Kuralarasan had been partying at a night club and asked the driver to wait, but later when the driver called up their mother Usha Rajendran, she instructed him to come back to teach his sons leassons.
However, Simbu’s father Vijaya T Rajendar denied the reports and informed police and reported that his son car Ford Mondeo was stolen by his driver Vasanthakumar.
