Overzealous fans of actor Chiranjeevi created unruly scenes outside his Praja Rajyam office in Jubilee Hills on Friday pushing down its wooden gates and causing injury to a TV cameraman.
The hordes of fans and admirers, included a sizeable number of government teachers from all parts of the State. A major chunk of those who turned was from West Godavari, Prakasam and Nalgonda districts. Ugly scenes were witnessed when fans tried to enter the office.
A cameraman was injured when he was pushed by an employee of Chiranjeevi, leading to a dharna and slogan shouting by television journalists and videographers. They called off their dharna after the employee as well as Praja Rajyam spokesman P. Mitra tendered an apology. They said they would lodge a police complaint if such an incident recurred. Chiranjeevi’s brother, Pavan Kalyan vaulted the gate and tried to reason with the teeming crowds. Within minutes he realised his mistake and rushed back into the office. The entire episode, lasting for about four hours, forced the film star to come out of the building four or five times and talk to the fans by standing on a chair. He apologised for his inability to make them seated comfortably and promised that these hardships would soon come to an end.
Ten days after Mr. Chiranjeevi announced the party and hoisted the flag at Tirupati, the same flag flew high in the party office here in Jubilee Hills. Interestingly, the flag was unfurled by Osman, a teacher from Mogalturu in West Godavari district who taught the actor while in school.
Five former MLAs joined the new party on Friday. They included former TDP MLAs D. Srinivas Rao and Reddy Satyanarayana, former BJP MLAs Venkataramana Reddy and Ayyaji and former Congress MLA Katari Eshwar Kumar.
