It is almost my story - Rajinikanth on 'Kathanayakudu'

Superstar Rajinikanth is in Hyderabad and a special screening for his latest film 'Kathanayukudu' was held at the Prasad Studio preview theater just a day ahead of the movie's release.

Speaking to the press after the screening, the superstar said the story of 'Kathanayukudu' is almost his story harping on the importance of friendship.

When asked by a reporter if the story had anything in common with his real life, the stylish Rajinikanth said, 'Of course….Of course….you see the picture first and then I'll tell you'.

'You see 'Kathanayukudu' and you would feel this is not a Rajinikanth movie. Yes, it is not a regular movie of mine, but a film that is so much close to me. You'll definitely enjoy this picture. A good social message is there' said the superstar.

When a reporter asked in a surprised manner, 'Did I actually see you crying towards the end?'

Rajinikanth replied, 'In the film…. yes….'

When asked about the recent controversy about the film not being allowed to be screened in Karnataka, Rajinikanth said he had spoken to the concerned officials and requested them to have the movie released. However, the high voltage actor refused to talk on political issues when a reporter raised the Sethu Samuthram issue.

Jagapathy Babu, who plays a barber in 'Kathanayukudu' also spoke to the press saying he learnt the meaning of humility from Rajinikanth and showered praises on him.

'In the film the superstar slaps me towards the end. I loved it' he declared. He also mentioned that every time a shot of him was to be filmed, the camera would actually be zoomed in on a real friend of Rajinikanth.

'Kathanayukudu' releases worldwide on the 1st of August.-IndiaGlitz

I was not dropped from Sultan - Ileana

After much hoopla over Ileana being dropped from Rajnikanth’s Sultan, the actress is now denying ever being a part of the movie. While tabloids have gone into a tizzy writing about how the actress was dropped like a hot potato from the big project, Ileana has a different story to tell. She says, "When the contract was not signed at all, the question of them dropping me does not arise. I was never a part of Sultan, though they were holding talks with me, I was yet to sign on the dotted line."

What is intriguing though is that Ileana’s manager had confirmed that she was actually pulled out of the project. According to the star’s manager Giridhar, Ileana felt let down when the producer refused to pay even half her market price which is Rs 1 crore. "In Telugu films the producers are willing to pay 1.25 crore but she is choosy about her roles. Ileana was prepared to reduce her price slightly but Soundarya said the budget did not permit even that," said Giridhar.

Meanwhile, Vijaylakshmi, who bagged the role in Sultan is overjoyed to be working with Rajnikanth. "Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this," She says.

"Even after a day of shooting with superstar Rajinikanth in Hyderabad, the feeling is yet to sink in. I was overawed by his presence, but he was very kind and he put me at ease. He advised me to treat this like any other film and give it my best shot," she adds.

Sneha Looks Hot With Dasari Hero

The image change syndrome and experimenting with the image phenomena has become a very common feature in the industry these days but then the truth remains that not all can actually fit up to all the bills though they are keen to prove their versatility in their appearances. One such starlet who has been trying hard to get a breakthrough in this is the sensuous beauty Sneha.

She is all set to appear in the new film 'Adivishnu' and folks who have been watching the proceedings of the film say that she is looking hot with hero Dasari Arunkumar. It is known news that Sneha tried so in her recent release 'Pardhu' with Lawrence but things didn't work. Now she is repeating the same act and that too with Arun Kumar whose career is almost on the final stages.

It will be a gamble of sorts for Sneha for opting to such roles since she has a registered image as the perfect domestic woman that many Indian women like. So it will be interesting to see if she can actually pull out any wild cards from her pocket and show her steamier side which might work in favor of Arun too.

Charmee has a new Mantra

After playing magic with her super performance in ‘Mantra’, Charmee is once again set to play a similar lead role in ‘Manthra Kanya.’ The movie is completed and is scheduled for release in the 2nd week of August. While Mantra was a suspense thriller, Manthra Kanya is an action-mystery set in the backdrop of a forest. It remains to be seen if Manthra Kanya does for Charmee what Mantra did to her.

Allow me to release Kuselan in Karnataka, says Rajini

New Delhi (IANS): Superstar Rajinikant, who was caught in the crossfire between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, over his ‘anti-Kannadiga’ statements has apologised and appealed to the people of Karnataka to allow the release of his latest film Kuselan.

Speaking to Kannada channels, Rajinikant said, “This incident has taught me a lesson. I shall never commit such a mistake again. Please allow the release of Kuselan in Karnataka."

"The people who are opposing me are also children of Karnataka. They are doing it for their state. Please, please forget the past and whatever I have said. Allow me to release my film. I am ready to help Kannadigas also,” the actor added.

Activists had earlier vowed to block the release of the actor’s forthcoming film in Karnataka, saying the Tamil superstar should issue a public apology for his ‘anti-Kannadiga’ statements. The threat had come days after the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had given its nod for the film’s release in the state. Kuselan will be released on Friday.

Kannada organisations led by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had demanded a public apology from Rajinikant for making strong remarks against them and the state during the Hogenakal agitation. Protestors from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had shouted slogans against Rajinikant at Bangalore theatres and three prominent theaters in the state had even declared that they would not screen the film.

Rajinikant had even sent a regret letter in Kannada, but the activists wanted a public apology from him. However, this apology may create problems for him in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, tickets for Kuselan’s screening on Friday are already sold out. The Karnataka Film Chambers also held a meeting on Thursday to sort the issue.

Rajini’s troubled past with Karnataka

On Monday, Rajinikant had written a letter to KFCC president and actress Jayamala to ensure that his film got a release in Karnataka on August 1, along with its launch in Tamil Nadu. He had clarified that he had never intended to hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas. Terming the superstar’s letter just a publicity stunt, former legislators Vatal Nagaraj and Prabhakara Reddy at a press conference had asked Rajinikant to come out with a public apology.

Some Kannada organisations had been demanding that Kuselan be released in the state only after a seven-week moratorium as Rajinikant had allegedly hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas by supporting Tamil Nadu on a row over a drinking water project in Hogenekkal, on the border between the two states. The superstar had joined the Tamil film fraternity in a daylong protest fast in April against Karnataka’s objections to the Rs13.3-billion Hogenekkal project that is expected to benefit about three million people in two Tamil Nadu districts.

Karnataka is opposed to the project, saying its share of the Cauvery river waters will be affected. The actor, in his letter to Jayamala, had stressed that he had never intended to hurt the feelings of Kannadigas by speaking at the rally. He also added that he did not want his fans in Krantaka to miss out on his film.

Priyamani: Yes, I have hiked my price

Industry is rife with rumours that Priya Mani, who recently bagged the National and Filmfare awards for Paruthi Veeran, has hiked her remuneration to Rs 40 lakh. The buzz is that it’s because she’s doing a Mani Ratnam film.

“Yes, I’ve hiked my price but it’s not because I’m doing a particular film. It’s just that you can’t keep working for the same amount all through your career. And it’s only natural to up your remuneration if your movies do really well and you become a known face in the industry. I can’t quote how much I charge or give you an approximate amount for my salary. But how I wish Rs 40 lakh was true!” laughs Priya Mani.

Mani Rathnam Film
She’s excited about doing a Mani Ratnam film. “It’s a bilingual and I’m doing the Tamil version. There’s also Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prithviraj in it. I’ve just signed the agreement and am waiting for Mani sir to make an official announcement,” she tells us.

Critics
And while the actress is thrilled about winning two prestigious awards, Tamil director Cheran has reportedly made unsavoury remarks about her — that Priya Mani didn’t deserve to win the National award. Is it because she didn’t agree to do his film? “I don’t think so. I’m sure he didn’t say that. Even if he did, it’s his personal opinion. I can’t sit him down and tell him to change it,” says the actress, dismissively.

Director P Vasu Speaks About Kathanayakudu

Director P. Vasu speaks about the making of the much-hyped Rajnikant starrer Kuselan. S. R. Ashok Kumar listens in

Kollywood has seen it all. Films based on the protagonist’s fixation for a star doesn’t sound unusual. But Kuselan seems to make news everyday. Naturally, because the film star happens to be superstar Rajnikant and the film maker is none other than P. Vasu, the man who gave Kollywood’s mega hit in recent times — Chandramukhi.

Vasu, who was actually working on the script of Chandramukhi 2 before Kuselan happened, unwinds between hectic schedules to talk about the film. “Yes, following the success of Chandramukhi, I was scripting its sequel. Even Rajnikant had heard the outline of the story and given the green signal. When things were beginning to fall in place, Natarajan, an associate director in Malayalam cinema, suggested I watch the film Katha Parayumpol, a runaway hit in Kerala. The film revolved around a barber’s fascination for film star Mammootty. The minute I saw it, I imagined our own superstar in a film like that. The climax made a deep impact on me. I’ve never come across such a story,” smiles Vasu.

So the next thing the ace director did was call up Rajnikanth and ask him to watch Katha Parayumpol. “The superstar watched the film, but left without a comment. I was puzzled. But the call came the following day. He told me how much the film had impacted him and evinced interest in it. We met and discussed the nitty-gritty. But having said yes to Robot, he wondered how he would be able to juggle two films at a time. I assured him I would wrap up his portion real fast. He agreed — mainly because the film had affected him so deeply.”
Rajni as Rajni

Vasu, who can’t stop gushing about the superstar continues, “It was Rajni who suggested that K. Balachander, his mentor, watch the film so that his production house Kavithalaya could take it up. Balachander felt the story had a striking semblance to that of the superstar and insisted Rajni play himself in the film. That’s how things began to roll with Pushpa Kandasmy as producer. It’s set for release on July 31.”

The Telugu version, Kathanayakudu, will have Jagapathi Babu playing the barber. “In Tamil we zeroed in on Pasupathi. Rajni was impressed by his performance in Veyil. We wanted someone who has not seen the superstar in person or acted with him. Vadivelu plays a meaty role, and so does Meena (she appears in the Tamil and Telugu versions). Rajni’s heroine in the film is none other than Nayanthara.”

Regarding the speculation relating to the number of scenes in which Rajni makes an appearance, Vasu says, “It’s a role that will be remembered. And it’s not merely a guest appearance. We have seen bits and pieces of ‘Rajni as Rajni’ in Valli and Anbulla Rajnikant. I personally feel the scene count doesn’t matter. What matters is the impact a character makes and the message he/she conveys. And that’s where Kuselan scores. What sets it apart from such star-centric films is the treatment.”

Talking about the ‘Cinema Cinema’ number, one of the highlights of the film, Vasu explains, “The number will be a sure-fire hit. It features the icon in 10 stylish looks. Portions of the song were shot with real fans at the Shanti theatre. If you remember, A. R. Rahman’s first film was Roja, a Kavithalaya production; now Kuselan has music by the maestro’s nephew G.V. Prakash.”

When asked whether it would be a ‘superstar versus superstar’ situation with Priyadarshan planning to remake Katha Parayumpol in Hindi with Shah Rukh Khan, Vasu smiles, “Each is great in his own way. They have distinct styles and a major following. But much depends on the treatment of the script.”

Switching to a mellow mood, the director says, “Eight years after I did Uzhaipali with Rajni, Chandramukhi happened. Soon, Kuselan followed. I wish to do more films with him. But as you know, man proposes, God disposes. So let’s wait and see.”

Rajni appears in Kuselan only after the third reel.

There are a couple of scenes from Annamalai. But Rajni looks much younger in Kuselan!

Even after 25 years of their association, Rajni’s regard for KB is the same

Superstar wanted Livingstone in the film. He also wanted a meaty role for Vadivelu.

Meena appears in both Tamil and Telugu versions of the film

Young Stars To Head Youth Wings

Now that film star, Chiranjeevi, broke the silence about the political party, the movement in political circles took high speed in the State. The ruling Congress, the Opposition Telugu Desam, have already started finding suitable candidates to challenge the film popularity of Chiranjeevi and his candidates.

The Telugu Desam president, N Chandrababu Naidu, had roped in the family of NTR and is actively considering naming Junior NTR as its Telugu Yuvatha president. Though the family members, including Balakrishna, Harikrishna, Kalyanram and Junior NTR, was scheduled to get into active politics during the by-elections in Telangana, they did not come out as their positions in the party were yet to finalise. According to the sources, the family has been insisting on giving the post of the president to Balakrishna and Telugu Yuvatha president to Junior NTR. However, Chandrababu Naidu had agreed to give the Yuvatha post to Junior NTR but was reluctant to miss the party president post as it would leave him powerless.

The family had suggested that Naidu may continue to be the president, but give an equal post to Balakrishna as that would make the film star’s hands stronger. While the position of Balakrishna in the party is yet to be decided, the TD boss had almost finalised the candidature of Junior NTR as the Yuvatha president. The decision, according to the party sources, was taken in the light of the announcement from the Chiru camp that it would make power star, Pawan Kalyan as the party’s youth wing president. Pawan Kalyan has greater image among the youth and Chiru’s camp is sure of keeping its youth force intact with Pawan Kalyan.

Having heard of the two developments – Junior NTR for Telugu Yuvatha and Pawan Kalyan for Chiru’s Youth wing – the ruling Congress is actively considering the possibility of naming Prince Mahesh Babu for the Youth Congress. Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had already held initial talks with Mahesh Babu’s father, Krishna, two weeks ago when the later met him. In fact, it was one of the reasons why the State government had delegated the land to Padmalaya Studios owned by Krishna.

If this happens, the Congress would have Mahesh Babu heading the Youth Congress, followed by Junior NTR heading the Telugu Yuvatha and Pawan Kalyan heading the youth wing of Chiru’s party. With the three major parties having the young stars heading their youth wings, the BJP would be forced to seek the help of Rebel Star, Krishnam Raju to allow Prabhas to head the BJP’s youth wing – Yuva Morcha – to strike a balance with other parties.

Anushka Becomes Top Heroine In Telugu

Irrespective of whether the movies have clicked at the box office or not, few stars never fail to stay on top of the list of many film makers. We have seen that happening with talented actor Sivaji and amongst the girls, the chosen one happens to be the voluptuous beauty Anushka.

Despite not having many successes at the box office in the recent past, Anushka is a hot property and given her sex appeal and the irrepressible oomph factor, it is not a surprise that film makers are crazy about her. Her towering figure added along with her killing looks makes her worthy enough to be titled the sex goddess of the Telugu industry.

Now, she has few movies lined up for release. If she sees success with these coming films then she would surely be on the number 1 slot. The interesting part is, even if she is unable to, her demand seems to be just the same like before.

Asin bows out of Akshay Kumar film

It seems South India’s Next Best Thing Asin is determined to take her success-quotient to a high a level in Bollywood as it is in Tamil and Telugu cinema. No false moves no slipups for the stunning sensation from the South who is being touted as a blend of Hema Malini and Rekha.

Just recently, Asin gave the nod to three biggies with Aamir Khan (Ghajini), Salman Khan-Ajay Devgan (London Dreams) and last but certainly not the least, Akshay Kumar (Aise Ko Taisa). Now the news is, Asin is out of Priyadarshan’s comedy with Akshay Kumar. Reason? According to her polite father, "There’s a date clash with the promos of Ghajini."

However, the director Priyadarshan is more forthcoming. "The Akshay film is a three-heroine project. I don’t think Asin would be comfortable with that. My producers Venus are looking into the matter of the heroines. We start shooting in November. So we’ve ample time to find the girls."

As far as Asin is concerned, the signal is loud and clear. This girl is here only to do author-backed central roles. No less.

Cashing Rs 60 crores on Rajini s name?

Kathanayakudu (’Kuselan’) is a remake of the Malayalam super hit in which Rajini plays a guest role.In the original version, Mammootty appeared only for 18 minutes towards the climax of the film. Vasu says Rajinikanth is there for roughly 60 minutes of the 155 minutes running time of the film, and appears from the third reel! It is said the director expanded upon the superstar character and also introduced a glamour heroine Nayanthara in the script who was not there in the original version. Rest of the movie is driven by Jagapathi Babu in Telugu and Pasupathi in Tamil.

It is an open secret that Rajinikanth wanted Vasu to stick to the original, so that his role would remain a cameo. He was very particular that the film should not be marketed as another Chandramukhi or Sivaji. At the puja of the film, Rajini told reporters that his role was only 25 percent of the film and played down his importance. But, the makers of the film marketed it like a full length superstar extravaganza and were able to sell it to Pyramid Saimira reportedly for a whopping Rs 60 crore! The question that is being raised is - Will Kathanayakudu/Kuselan, a film where Rajinikanth does only a special appearance lives up to his fans expectations? We have to wait and see…

Electronic Media Behind Suhasini!

One of the many speculations that are doing rounds about Chiranjeevi's party is that Suhasini, his erstwhile heroine and wife of noted director Maniratnam, is going to head the Mahila wing of the party.

One does not know how the news came out, but electronic media beamed it prominently after Chiru's meeting with journalists that Suhasini is actively involved in Chiru's party and is likely to become the president of its women's wing.

Suhasini's son is already an active worker of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and he participated in the CPI-M national executive at Trivendrum recently. Perhaps, Suhasini's political interest might have some relationship with Chiru's equations with the CPI-M. So far, it is all speculation. Let us see whether it will be a reality or not.

Colors Swathi Wept For Morphed Sex Videos

Technology is growing sky heights but the users are biting mud day by day with it. A few days back a morphed video showing Hillary Clinton smooching Obama has seen light. That didn't make big impact as the morphing style used for that is very weak.

And now Colors Swathi is shown as if she was involving in sexual act with someone. The clippings were posted in some websites. She was completely disturbed with that and not enjoying the moments of her success with the film Subramaniapuram in Tamil.

Colors Swathi condemned this whole issue and questioned the media why it would publish such nasty things on web portals without consulting her and taking opinion. She said that the videos are completely morphed

Directors and Producers' Chasing Her

The Aishwarya Rai of Tollywood Sneha Ullal is now selling like hot cakes and recently she was seen in the movie 'Ullasanga Uthsahamga' which was her debut stint in the Telugu film industry, The film was slated to be a romantic entertainer with some real good music.

Now, Sneha Ullal has to be liberal with her remuneration, it seems she took Rs 10 lakhs for her full role in 'Ullasamga Utsahamga' and now the luck seems to have turned in favor of struggling Manoj Babu who is lucky enough to have this heroine in 'Nenu Meeku Telusaa', it is great that they booked Sneha Ullal when stardom hasn't come for her…

With the kind of demand that Sneha has begun to enjoy, it will now be a litmus test for Sneha to play her cards correctly if she is looking at joining the league of Ileana, Tamannah or Kajal. Her choice of films and roles will be the key factor in deciding her future path.

Southern star Sneha completes 50 films

South Indian actress Sneha, who has acted opposite top stars like Kamal Haasan, Mammooty and Nagarjuna, is all set to complete 50 films with a cameo in Rajnikanth’s fortcoming "Kuselan".

The 26-year-old, who made her debut with Malayalam film "Engane Oru Nila Pakshi" by director Anil Babu, made her way into audiences’ hearts with her endearing ’thousand watt’ smile. In her career spanning seven years, she has acted in movies of all south Indian languages - Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada.

Apart from her smile, she is also known for having rejecting movies as she doesn’t believe in wearing skimpy clothes on screen. Her popularity has soared to great heights and she is often compared to late south Indian star Soundarya.

The actress, who is now upbeat about working with Rajnikanth, said: "I feel proud that I’m compared to a top actress like Soundarya. I would like to be remembered for my performances than my glamour. I feel satisfied if people say that I have acted very well in films like ’Sri Ramadasu’ and ’Autograph’."

She added: "I am not against actresses who wear skimpy costumes for films. But I don’t wear them because I don’t feel comfortable. I have rejected requests to wear some costumes."

A Telugu girl who was born in Mumbai and brought up in Dubai, Sneha can boast of having worked with the best of actors and has given many hits so far.

The actress has starred opposite Kamal Hassan ("Vasool Raja"), Mammootty ("Thiruppu Gulam"), Ajit ("Jana"), Nagarjuna ("Sree Amdasu") and Balakrishna ("Pandurangadu"). Her performance in Tamil films "Autograph", "Parthibhan" and "Kanavu", and Telugu films like "Radha Gopalam", "Sree Ramadasu" and Sankranthi have been appreciated by audiences and critics alike.

"I have worked with the best of directors and have been lucky enough to get extraordinary roles in my career. My ambition is to work with top directors like Mani Ratnam sir and Shankar sir. And I also want to do a film with Laletten (Mohanlal). Though I have worked in Malayalam films, I’m yet to get an opportunity to work with him," Sneha said.

The young actress is presently acting with Mammootty in the bilingual "Vande Matharam" and with Prasanna in "Achchamundu Achchamundu".

Ravi Teja Baladoor Music Launch

Music of Ravi Teja’s Baladhoor (veediki badhyata lekkuva) is released at Serengeti, the Ohri’s, Hyderabad. Music composed by KM Radhakrishnan, the film has lyrics by Chandrabose, Peddada Murthy and Anant Sriram. Aditya Music is marketing the album. Venkatesh released both the audio CD and cassette, presenting it to Anushka and Ravi Teja respectively. Made on Suresh Productions banner, it is produced by D. Suresh Babu, with direction by Uday Shankar. The songs were shot in the picturesque locations of Samarkhand, Bhukara in Uzbekistan, Austria, Germany and Hyderabad (Nanakramguda).

Ravi Teja : “I term Baladhoor as a feel good film of its kind, giving me a fresh look all through. For the first time, I am working with Suresh Productions. I hope the entertainment will touch the expectations of all.”

Anushka : “This is my second film with Ravi Teja, and felt at home working with Suresh Productions. Director Uday Shankar’s handling of things is wonderful. I hope this film will entertain all sections of the audience.”

Uday Shankar : “I am happy that music director KM Radhakrishna has given excellent score with mass beats and melody for the film. I also appreciate the lyric writers in this regard. Without the cooperation of Suresh Babu, I wouldn’t have completed the project with perfection. I thank one and all in the unit.”

KM Radhakrishna : “This is my debut film with Suresh Productions, which is my most favorite production house. I heartily thank the producer and director giving me this opportunity.”

Paruchuri Gopalakrishna : “The tagline of the film says that the hero has a lot of responsibilities. These responsibilities with the hero are on the screen. But, behind the screen, a number of technicians worked with zeal. In a good number of films we did, we used the technique of “Re-editing” and “Re-shooting” to accommodate new ideas while the shoot is under progress. We had successfully implanted these two strategies in about forty films in our career spanning more than 300 films. Krishna’s role as hero’s father would rock and bring richness to the film.”

Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao : “Generally, the audiences will gauze hero’s stamina in the role as a Baladhoor, but they are going to have a novel experience as they would be seeing him as a man handling the responsibilities.”

Venkatesh, the chief guest of the function: “I am happy to say that Ravi Teja has worked with Suresh Productions. I hope this is going to be a good family entertainer, with elements of love, emotion and entertainment. I wish one and all best of luck.”

Suresh Babu : “After a long time, I have done a film with a big hero other than my brother Venkatesh. I am thankful to the entire film unit for the responsibilities they had fulfilled with good results. The movie’s release date will be announced on 4th or 5th of August.”

Tamanna In Remake Of 'Jab We Met' Playing Kareena Role With Bharath

Finally it is official that Bharath and Tamanna would be pairing up for the Hindi remake Jab We Met. The Hindi version, which had Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, went on to become a huge hit. Earlier plans were afoot that Dhanush and Trisha would be playing the lead roles. But they both had opted out of the project. The remake rights, incidentally, have been acquired by Moserbaer. Bharath is currently working with director Hari for Seval.

He had earlier allotted his dates for Suresh Krishna’s Aarumugham once Seval is safely out of the way. But with this big project coming his way, Bharath had reportedly put that project on hold to pave way for Jab We Met. The film is slated to begin in September.

Chirutha Babe Demanding Rs 40 Lakhs

The competition for heroines in the industry is so high that this has given an edge for the big banner and other noted film makers to negotiate the remuneration aspect subject to situations. So, except the top shots like Nayantara, Trisha, Ileana it has always been a cut throat competition for the other actresses which means fluctuating their fees. However, here is someone who has got some real high demands.

We are talking about the north beauty Neha Sharma who is said to be demanding a sum of a whopping Rs 40 lakhs for acting in Telugu films which has sent the producers into a shock state

While it is not sure whether she is not interested in doing Telugu flicks or if it is really her perception that she is worth such remuneration, one thing is clear that Neha Sharma will not be able to see much light and demand in the Telugu land since there are much better girls who would be in for a project with half her remuneration.

Major setback for Allu Aravind

Allu Aravind had to bite the dust in the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce elections held here on Sunday. While Mr Aravind managed 48 votes, the winner, Mr K.S. Rama Rao, romped home with 184 votes. Chiranjeevi’s group, which already had the Movie Artists Association (MAA) in its kitty, tried its best to win the chamber elections in the run up to the launch of his party. "The defeat has shocked Chiranjeevi’s bastion," industry sources said.

The fight between two castes for supremacy resulted in Mr Arvind’s defeat. While Chiranjeevi and his brothers led one group, the other is headed by the big producers who belong to another caste. Industry sources said with an intention to halt Chiranjeevi’s domination, the producers came together. There was a heated argument after the election as distributors and exhibitors raised objections on producers holding the chamber president post all the time. But at the end all the groups compromised and accepted Mr K.S. Rama Rao as the next president.

Chiru to launch his party on B’day?

The speculation surrounding Chiranjeevi’s party launch continues to be a subject of hot discussion at both political and social parties.

While a few believe that it will be launched on his birthday, August 22nd, industry sources claim that Chiranjeevi will announce his decision on 8th August and not Independence Day. The launch promises to be a gala affair with him revealing the flag and agenda of his party at a public rally. kin to do his job.

To fit into his new political avatar. It is learnt that Chiru is seeking advise from personality councilors to make him aggressive and diplomatic. "He can take a moral high ground by meeting the demands of Nandini and invite Srija couple before setting out to campaign" reasons a political analyst who believes these nagging issues will put him on defensive until resolved.

The unfortunate clashes between fans over their respective castes added to the drama.Besides pacifying them Chiru needs to define the role of his huge following. Similarly, if the roles of his brothers and brother-in-law remain undefined then it would create even more confusion (it is alleged that leaders like Mayawati and KCR insisted on a one-to-one meet instead of mediators).

With Pavan Kalyan resolving to play an active role in inspire youth it becomes more of a necessity than choice. According to sources, Rajnikanth cautioned his friend to be more careful with strangers while touring prompting Chiru to form a security ring around him.

Rajinikanth doles Shah Rukh out of trouble

Rajinikanth, the superstar that he is, recently showed all his generosity for none other than the King Khan, who has been obliged by Rajini.

Rajnikant, who’s latest flick ‘Kuselan’ is all set to release worldwide on August 15, was reportedly being dubbed in Hindi, alongside Telugu. SRK got set a setback on learning this, as both ‘Kuselan’ and ‘Billoo Barber’ (an SRK production) are remakes of the Malayalam hit ‘Katha Parayumbol’. Since, the story lines of both the flicks are identical, SRK feared that if ‘Kuselan’ releases in Hindi first, then his home production will be left in lurch, as there won’t be any novelty left for ‘Billoo Barber’, which might affect its fate of the BO.

In an effort to save his home production, SRK called Rajini and requested him to postpone the release of his Hindi version. Rajni obliged and now the film shall only release in Tamil and Telugu all over the world. The Hindi dubbed version of ‘Kuselan’ will, perhaps, release but post Diwali, giving SRK a sigh of relief.

It seems that SRK has found a new friend in Rajini, as they say- A friend in need is a friend indeed, what say SRK?

Why Kathanayakudu wrappedup in 85days

Director P. Vasu speaks about the making of the much-hyped Rajinikant starrer, ‘Kathanayakudu.’ The minute I saw it (Katha Parayumpol) I imagined our own superstar in a film like that. The climax made a deep impact on me.

Kollywood has seen it all. Films based on the protagonist’s fixation for a star doesn’t sound unusual. But ‘Kuselan’ seems to make news everyday. Naturally, because the film star happens to be superstar Rajinikant and the filmmaker is none other than P. Vasu, the man who gave Kollywood’s mega hit in recent times — ‘Chandramukhi.’

Vasu, who was actually working on the script of ‘Chandramukhi 2’ before ‘Kuselan’ happened, unwinds between hectic schedules to talk about the film. “Yes, following the success of ‘Chandramukhi,’ I was scripting its sequel. Rajnikant had heard the outline of the story and given the green signal and in fact had asked Nayanthara to read the script. When things were beginning to fall in place, Natarajan, an associate director of Malayalam films, suggested I watch the film ‘Katha Parayumpol,’ a runaway hit in Kerala. The film revolved around a barber’s fascination for film star Mammootty. The minute I saw it, I imagined our own superstar in a film like that. The climax made a deep impact on me. I’ve never come across such a story,” smiles Vasu.

So the next thing the ace director did was to call up Rajinikant and ask him to watch ‘Katha Parayumpol.’ “The superstar watched the film, but left without a comment. I was puzzled. But the call came the following day. He told me how much the film had impacted him and evinced interest in it. We met and discussed the nitty-gritty. But having said yes to ‘Robot,’ he wondered how he would be able to juggle two films at a time. I assured him I would wrap up his portion real fast. After all it was tailor-made for him. Only some elements had to be thrown in to make the picture complete. Rajini agreed — mainly because the film had affected him so deeply.”

Rajini as Rajini

Vasu, who can’t stop gushing about the superstar continues, “It was Rajini who suggested that K. Balachander, his mentor, watch the film so that his production house Kavithalaya can take it up. Balachander felt the story had a striking semblance to that of the superstar and insisted Rajni play himself in the film. That’s how things began to roll. Produced by Pushpa Kandasamy and Vijayakumar of Seven Arts, the film is set for release on July 31. Here the work of cinematographer Aravind Krishna has to be acknowledged. He played a significant role in wrapping up the film in 85 days.”

The Telugu version, ‘Kathanayakudu,’ will have Jagapathi Babu playing the barber. “In Tamil we zeroed in on Pasupathi. Rajni was impressed by his performance in ‘Veyil.’ We wanted someone who has not seen the superstar in person or acted with him. Vadivelu plays a meaty role, and so does Meena (she appears in the Tamil and Telugu versions). Rajini’s heroine in the film is none other than Nayanthara. Livingston has bagged a role too.”

Impact of the role

Regarding the speculation relating to the number of scenes in which Rajini makes an appearance, Vasu says, “It’s a role that will be remembered. And it’s not merely a guest appearance. We have seen bits and pieces of ‘Rajini as Rajini’ in ‘Valli’ and ‘Anbulla Rajinikant.’ I personally feel the scene count doesn’t matter. What matters is the impact a character makes and the message he/she conveys. And that’s where ‘Kuselan’ scores. What sets it apart from such star-centric films is the treatment. Friendship, I should say gets redefined, here.”

Talking about the ‘Cinema Cinema’ number, one of the highlights of the film, Vasu explains, “The number will be a sure-fire hit. It features the icon in 10 stylish looks. Portions of the song were shot with real fans at Shanti theatre, Chennai. If you remember, A.R. Rahman’s first film was ‘Roja,’ a Kavithalaya production, now ‘Kuselan’ has music by the maestro’s nephew G.V. Prakash.”

When asked whether it would be a ‘superstar versus superstar’ situation with Priyadarshan planning to remake ‘Katha Parayumpol’ in Hindi with Shah Rukh Khan, Vasu smiles, “Each is great in his own way. They have distinct styles and a major following. But much depends on the treatment of the script.”

Switching to a mellow mood, the director says, “Eight years after I did ‘Uzhaipali’ with Rajini, ‘Chandramukhi’ happened. Soon, ‘Kuselan’ followed. I wish to do more films with him. But as you know, man proposes, God disposes. So let’s wait and see.”

Vasu Vignettes :

Rajini appears only after the third reel and looks younger.
There are a couple of scenes from ‘Annamalai.’
Twenty-five years after his debut, Rajini’s regard for KB is the same.
Rajini wanted Livingston in the film. He also wanted a meaty role for Vadivelu.
Meena appears in both — Tamil and Telugu versions of the film

Nayatara and Trisha - cat fight!!

A catfight has erupted in Kollywood between two leading ladies – the numero uno heroine Nayanthara and her biggest competitor Trisha. When it comes to asserting the supremacy at the top and battling it out for the top slot, our heroines are not far behind. Catfights and back biting are not something new to Kollywood, though it is not written about or discussed in public.

Trisha was ruling the tinsel town, till Nayanthara after her dare-bare bikini act in Billa walked away with the crown. And overnight from nowhere Nayan emerged as the most sought-after girl who even commanded an opening for a film. With her glamorous screen presence and right attitude she bagged films with big banners and top heroes. It seemed that she had it in her to displace the irreplaceable Trisha from the top.

Time for a quick flashback. Before Billa happened Nayanthara and Trisha had warmed up to each other and used to regularly party in Hyderabad and Chennai as both were busy doing Tamil and Telugu films. They had something in common, their deep rooted hatred for Asin, who was then ruling Kollywood. Nayan always had a pathological hatred for Asin as she feels that the Kochi girl was responsible for reducing her to an item girl in Ghajini. Trisha on the other hand found Asin to be a major threat, as she was getting more advertisement endorsements, and she also managed to get a break in an Aamir Khan film. Remember at one time Trisha was desperate to get into Bollywood? Her mentor ace director Priyadarshan after promising her a role in Bhool Bhulaiya, at the last minute replaced her with Vidya Balan.

However by the fag end of 2007, equations changed after Asin shifted lock, stock and barrel to Mumbai to pursue her Bollywood dreams. Both the girls were very happy with Asin’s exit from the scene and they partied hard and had a lot of mutual high-flying friends. The first seeds of mistrust in their relationship happened over Kuruvi heroine’s role. Trisha, who was the first choice of the director was shocked to know when Nayan made a statement that she was signed up. And in a sudden twist, Trisha came back to the project and mutual friends stepped in, where matters were amicably settled. After a few weeks of uneasy calm, Trisha felt that Nayan was getting too close to one of her favourite heroes. Nayan also got an uneasy feeling that Trisha was marshalling her enemies together.

During this time Nayan was doing the Tamil remake of a Trisha super hit in Telugu, and among the gang they made fun of her that she could not act. The film released and turned out to be a super hit in Tamil also, and Nayan had the last laugh! The last straw on the proverbial camel’s back was when Nayan was unceremoniously dropped from being the brand ambassador of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL tournament. She saw a deep rooted conspiracy behind her sacking and blamed Trisha for it.

Poor Trisha, who was away on a foreign shoot at that time, denied that she had used her influence to humble her rival.
Back to present. Today Trisha and Nayan are bitter towards each other. Recently Nayan was supposed to be the chief guest at mutual friend and designer SS Sidney’s Spring Summer 2008 Collections. But when she came to know that Trisha was walking the ramp, she dropped out at the last minute.

At the Filmfare function and later at the party, they ignored each other. And to rub it in, last week, Nayan also looked through Shriya and Reema Sen who were staying in the same hotel while Trisha threw a big party after winning the Filmfare award for which she did not invite her former friend. Vishal, who once claimed that he was madly in love with Nayan during the making of Sathyam, is said to be the new flavour in Trisha’s life.

The actress however dismisses the hunk’s sudden closeness to Trisha as nothing more than a ploy to worm her way into his next film. The catfight, it seems, is not going to end anytime soon. Not till a new cat walks away with the crown!

Nayanthara on her relationship with Trisha: I don’t thing that all this was necessary, as it is a very trivial matter. I know I can’t be in everyone’s good books. For me Trisha is just like any other heroine, say a Shriya or Asin. The media and certain people in the industry thought that we were great friends; actually there is no truth in it. We used to bump into each other because we have common friends, I don’t like her nor do I hate her. I’m here to do my work, not to make friends. And if someone has a problem with me, I can’t help it.

Trisha on her relationship with Nayanthara: I have a few close friends with whom I bond. In the industry my close friends are Shriya and Reema. When we meet we just chill out and never discuss movies or work. We all started together and there is certainly an amount of closeness between us. I have never played dirty or manipulated film makers or played games. I haven’t stepped on anyone’s toes. As far as Nayanthara is concerned, she used to hang around with us but has never been my close friend. I have nothing against her, but she is not my type.

Mumaith to leave Tollywood ?

Few months down the lane Mumaith Khan she won’t be seen in Tollywood. It’s not because of lack of offers but she is not happy about few things here. Her easy going and friendly attitude masked the hurt and trauma “Check the Net to see what they write about me. ‘Din mein Savithri, raath mein… bla bla’. I am not happy about this. I don’t know who are writing all this,” says the actress fed up with all this.”If you have guts say it on the face. I will reply. Nobody has any right to talk ill of others. Of course by writing about me, they are earning their bread and supporting their families,”consoling herself. “Even some newspapers and channels are also doing the same thing. A newspaper quoted me saying that I have ‘tribal instinct’. I never spoke to them. Recently a Telugu TV channel ran a scroll for two days that a case has been filed against me which is not true,” she says.

Is this the sole reason behind her decision. “Not like that. I do need some change. I want to start my life afresh in Mumbai.” “If I want I can take action. But I don’t. What can I do yaar. I can’t do anything. We can’t shut them up. I am working hard and derive pleasure in what I do. The rest doesn’t matter to me,” she clarifies.”I have only three projects left. Once they are done I will go back to Mumbai,”she says. “My parents raised me up. Now its my duty to take care of them in their older years,”says Munnu who is the youngest of the three daughters and do not want to think of marriage at least for five years. Mention her big ear rings, her face lights up and says,”My sister bought me this dress and ear rings when I was in China recently. I went there for a vacation. She is the number two in a big textile company.”

Sexy 6-Pack Nayantara

It has become common news that the six pack mania has taken over the film industry completely and all the male stars have been hitting the gym regularly to reach the dream figure of the abs as soon as possible. We already have Nitin and Prabhas in the top with many more names to follow.

However, this will come as a surprise to you that six pack is not only limited for men, it applies for females too. So here is one girl in the south who has worked very hard to get the dream figure on to her flat tummy. She is none other than the hot beauty Nayantara who has already created mayhem with her 'Bikini' act.

It is heard that Nayan has come out with some really toned abs and men may go mad looking at this tightest female tummy in India. Yes even Halle Berry may not compete with our Nayan now and it remains to be seen whether anyone from the southern belles would be interested to take her path.

Mani Ratnam To start a 120 cr project

Kollywood is abuzz with news that ace director Mani Ratnam has signed the biggest ever deal in the history of South Indian cinema, to do a three version film in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. His production company Madras Talkies is supposed to be in the final lap of negotiating a whopping Rs 120 crore deal with the Anil Ambani run Reliance Entertainment Big Picture, for all negative rights for three languages. Industry pundits say that if the deal takes place, it will be the biggest for a South Indian film producer and director.

Mani Sir, as he is known in Kollywood (Chennai), has been quietly working on the script of this film since the release of his super hit Guru in January 2007. The elusive director, who never gives interviews, has been keeping a low profile after the demise of his younger brother G Sreenivasan, the moving spirit behind Madras Talkies.

The Hindi version will feature Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Govinda in a negative role. Confirming that he has signed up for the movie, Govinda told TNN: "I am actually doing a film with Mani Sir. Isn’t it every actor’s dream to work with him? We met recently and I heard about my role, which interested me a lot. It is an intense film and my role will definitely surprise the audiences." Abhishek, who scored his first solo super hit with Guru, is all excited about this new untitled film, for which he has given bulk dates.

The Tamil and Telugu version will have Vikram doing Abhishek’s role while Aishwarya Rai will be the common heroine for all the three versions. He is teaming up with his photographer from his early films PC Sreeram, the wizard of lighting in Indian cinema and his own ‘discovery’ A R Rahman.

Prabhas in Jayanth’s new film

Krishnam Raju is producing a film starring Prabhas to be directed by Jayanth Paranji. Right now, Prabhas’ star has risen in the Tollywood firmament after the success of Bujjigadu. The working title of the new project is Raju and it will be produced under their home banner Gopi Krishna Movies. Prabhas is Krishnam’s nephew.

Gopi Krishna Movies has some notable credits like Krishnaveni and Baktha Kannappa under its belt.

Allari Pidugu was Jayanth’s last film in Telugu. After he launched Love 4 Ever in November 2007, he disappeared for a while and nothing is known about the fate of the film.

Actress Nayanthara claims rivals circulating fake MMS clip

(IANS) South India’s highest paid actress Nayanthara Thursday filed a police complaint alleging that her rivals are circulating a fake MMS clip reportedly showing her in a compromising pose with Tamil actor Simbu, sources said. “This is the work of rivals jealous of my fame and bankability on the eve of the August release of ‘Kuselan’ and ‘Sathyam,’ both big budget ventures,” the actress was quoted as saying.

Nayanthara was rumoured to be romantically linked Shimbu but now maintains that she has a “friendly relationship” with him, sources close to the actress said.

According to sources, the allegedly morphed clip originated in Tiruchirappalli Sunday and has been widely circulated since then.

Earlier, actresses Trisha, Jyothika and Namitha have been victims of such fake MMS clips, according to industry sources.

No arrests have been made so far, police sources added.

5 Films Hitting Screen Tomorrow

Friday, things are going to be very crucial as there are not one or two but a total of five films that are hitting the screens.

Top among them is ‘Ullasanga Utsahanga‘ followed by ‘Maa Aayana Chantipilladu‘ ‘Krushi‘ ‘Itlu Nee Vennela‘ and the dubbing flick ‘Arya MBBS‘ starring Madhavan and Bhavana. The first one has been the favorite bet of many since it is the comeback venture of Karunakaran and the first film of Sneha Ullal, the Aishwarya Rai of Telugu industry.

The second film is a litmus test for talented hero Sivaji who has been trying to hit the box office with success but has failed. The other two are strictly for the B & C centers and the last one can be seen for the star appeal. But that happened to be a dubbed flick and attention will be lesser. Good luck to each film and may the better ones get the deserved success.

Nitin's Sexy Advise For Heroine

Gone are the days when talent alone matters in the film industry, these are the days of fitness and glamour so what if you don't have the acting talent? You have muscles or a curvaceous body and you are in for a top slot. Since this has become the latest mantra, the actors have been doing their best to keep up their shapes.

One among them happens to be 'Youth Star' Nitin who has joined the six pack league and has gone a step further by building an eight pack ab which was seen in his recent release 'Victory'. So he has become the fitness guru of sorts for many other colleagues in the industry and one among them happens to be Bhavana.

It is heard that he asked Bhavana to reduce her tummy area by doing crunches and this would help her give a toned body and a flat ab region which will make her look sexy. Fitness apart there are rumors that Nitin is moving close with Bhavana these days. Let us see what happens next.

Shruti torn between the two women in Kamal Hassan’s life

She might still have to make a mark in Bollywood, but Kamal Hassan’s daughter, Shruti Hassan is already adding some juicy stories to gossip columns as the new-bee has sparked rumours of shutting her mother Sarika out of her life.

According to reports, the two have fallen apart ever since Shurti went out to stay with her father and his girlfriend Gowthami.

Sarika, who did not expect her daughter to side with the other women decided to snub off her daughter.

Not only has Sarika refused to play any part in Shruti’s film career, she has also refused to stay in contact with her daughter.

Sources tell us, that Sarika even declined to go at the Hard Rock Café where shruti performed last month. It has also been stated that Gowthami has been giving more than just company to Shruti. Besides accompanying the young lass on outdoor shoots, she is also said to be influencing her career moves.

Now that, we feel is a little too much for Shruti to be asking her mum Sarika to put up with.

Vishal Talks About Nayan affair!!!

Handsome stud Vishal who is all set to hit the screens on the Independence Day with his movie 'Salute' shared his thoughts with the media after having a very low profile audio release of the bilingual which is also made in Tamil. The movie is directed by Rajasekhar and the music for the film has been composed by Harris Jayaraj. But more than the film, folks are interested to know what is cooking between Vishal and his co-star Nayan.

Speaking about the film, Vishal said that this is his seventh film but he has put an effort which is equal to the other six movies that he made. When the question of truth about Nayan was popped to him, he said in a rather plain face that there are many more burning issues right now such as the no confidence motion and the burning petrol prices than discuss his love life which is of no relevance.

However, he clarified that there is no romance between him and Nayan and mentioned that the intimate scenes that both of them were involved in one of the numbers was already told to Nayan when she signed the film. So it looks like the curtains are dropped when it comes to the Vishal-Nayan affair.

Prakash Raj gave a complaint on Trisha

Prakash Raj has been alleged as problem-creator for producers without attending on the call sheets given. There were many complaints on him both in Tollywood and Kollywood. But now Prakash Raj himself is facing trouble as a producer with Trisha. He has been making a Tamil film from quite some time but that halted due to his personal and financial problems.

He took Trisha’s dates to shoot a song in first week of June but he didn’t utilize them as his financial resources were drained by that time. Now again he asked for Trisha’s dates but she denied saying ‘busy’. This made Prakash Raj lose his cool and in turn Trisha also verbally bombarded on him. Prakash Raj gave a complaint on Trisha in Tamil film producers’ council but no one knows how far his woes will be answered. The time proves to be disturbing for Prakash Raj with professional tensions as well as divorce with wife in personal life little while ago.

Heroines Are Being Used By Politicians

Wise men say that wine, woman and wealth prove to be the 'sammohanastraalu' at any time on earth and amongst the three, the power of woman is the most intoxicating and at the same time a very fatal weapon too and now this is said to be the tool that is being employed by the politicians.

Incidentally, it is known news that with the current political scenario and also the impending elections, political parties have been trying to rope in powerful leaders and other party bearers from opposition parties into their camp and in this process, it is heard that they are resorting to the woman power to ensure that they are able to get their chosen ones.

It is heard that some big heroines and famous actresses are being used to lure politicians into bed first and then into the party. This goes to show to what kind of extent our political system is swooping in the so called democracy just to achieve their personal agendas and motives. We already know how money and wine are buying votes and seats. Now women are also being used. The names of the heroines are yet to come out.

Rajini’s daughter a ‘behind the scenes superstar’

Chennai:Chennai: Superstar Rajnikanth is all set to begin shooting for Sultan, the much-awaited, most expensive Indian animated film. And Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya is both directing and producing the film.

"First of all, a film like Sultan has never been done before because it’s realistic 3D and what India has seen as of now is more 2D. It’s all mythology-based and this is a fictitious film. It stars superstar Rajinikanth, so yeah, I think that’s the edge," says Soundarya.

"Oh my father’s looking forward to it too. It’s the first time he’s going to be directed by his daughter so he’s very excited about it as well," she adds.

Soundarya is the head of Ocher studios which is co-producing Sultan along with Adlabs. And now Ocher studios has also tied up with Warner Bros for producing live action films.

"They’re a great team, you know there’s nothing more I can say about Warner Bros that people don’t already know. We have tied up an exclusive agreement deal that we’ll produce live action films for them. We’re producing South Indian films to begin with, but soon we’ll move on to the North Indian market as well. It’s an exclusive agreement that we have happening," says she.

When asked if she ever wants to become an onscreen glamour queen, Soundarya says that she has done a guest appearance with her father in the yet to be released Kuselan, but that for the moment, she’s happy playing the back screen boss.

"It may be too late for that because I’ve already stepped behind the camera. And Kuselan, well it’s a wonderful movie and the song is called Cinema Cinema and it talks about how movies are made. The crew that participates in it from behind the camera and it’s just a couple of shots, that’s it," she explains.

If Rajnikanth is the undisputed superstar in front of the camera, his daughter wants to make her mark from behind the scenes.

Trisha made Prakash Raj to Repent

In order to earn a place of respect and regard in the film industry, the talent of acting alone does not help, one needs to have the right kind of attitude and also enough discipline to create a mark for him/her. Here is one classic example of the highly talented Prakashraj which should be a learning point to many.

Whilst his tenure as an actor, he was notorious for giving a very hard time to the producers by not reporting on time and sometimes vanishing for days together without any information. Despite all this, the makers used to put up with him due to his talent as an actor. However, there is always a saturation point for everything and one day the lid blew off and he was banned from the Telugu industry. Now, history is said to be repeating even in the Tamil industry too where Prakash has gone.

It is about time that he chooses the way, if he wants to live according to his whims and fancies keeping producers in tension he should never become a producer. It is known that people never get sympathy on him if any artiste troubles him when he is a producer. Now that Prakashraj is a film producer as well who is making some films, he fails to attend shooting after taking advances and troubles producers. In his case even Trisha did the same.

Now he is not getting help from the Producers council in Chennai it seems. He is worried for his wrong planning and erratic approach. He is also repenting now for his behavior all these days. So it is Trisha who made his eyes open.
