Acid attack victim Swapnika dies

Leaving a deep scar in the consciousness of god-fearing and civilised lot, Swapnika, the victim of the brutal acid attack in Warangal breathed her last on Wednesday morning in a private hospital in Secunderabad.

A final year engineering student, Swapnika was attacked on December 11 by one Sakhamuri Srinivas Rao and two of his accomplices while she was on her way back home after classes on a scooter along with her friend Pranitha. Swapnika suffered severe burns in the attack and had been battling with death ever since, while Pranitha escaped with minor injuries.

The three accused were shot dead by Warangal police in less than 48 hours of the incident, in their efforts to save their skin as they failed to take action against Srinivas when Swapnika lodged a complaint of harassment against Srinivas.

Swapnika was put on ventilator after she developed severe respiratory problems on Tuesday. However, she succumbed to burns on Wednesday morning, according to the doctors at Yashoda hospital.[Deccanpost]
