Kanchipuram, August 9: Gearing up to take a plunge into politics, Telegu film star Chiranjeevi would be performing a ‘satha chandi homam’ in the famous Kamakshi Amman temple in Kanchipuram to invoke divine blessings before his much speculated debut.
Natanam Sasthrigal, the priest entrusted with the task of organising the havan, said that the havan would be performed on August 21 and 22 and Chiranjeevi himself would be present on one of these days.
After the havan, the film star is expected to proceed to Tirupati, where some of his close relatives have already stated that he may make the announcement at a public meeting.
About 50 vedic scholars would conduct the havan, which the priest said, is done for ‘rajyadhikaram’ (power over governance) and ‘Lakshmi kataksham’ (blessings of Goddess Lakshmi).
Those who performed this havan in the past included famous politicians like former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, A B Vajpayee and Opposition leader L K Advani, Natanam said.
The much speculated entry of Chiranjeevi has been doing the rounds in Andhra Pradesh for quite some time. Earlier reports, quoting his close relatives, said that the film star may announce his plans on August 15. But according to Natanam, the announcement may come any time after the havan.
